Attracting Business

Key Issues:

Dr. Tom Cardman is head of Economic Development.  We also have an Economic Development Plan that is an addendum to the Comprehensive Plan.  It can be downloaded on the County  Website at http://www.pagecounty.virginia.gov     Go to Our Government, Public Notices. 

However, many of the county actions do not seem to be "business-friendly".  An example:

Tourist cabins are one of the few businesses in the county.  Cabin owners have to register at the landfill and pay a  monthly fee so that their renters can drop off their trash.  But they won't let the renters drop off their trash at the Compacting centers.  The renters are supposed to bring their trash to Battlecreek directly.    This, of course, is an imposition on the renters that won't work.  They're only here for the weekend.  So that means, the cabin owners have to collect the trash and bring it to Battlecreek themselves.  Even though they pay a fee for the service.

A petty and small imposition, but one that shows an "attitude".
